Other board games / [Tricky Tides] on Kickstarter
« on: 05/05/18, 09:55am »
Hello all,

Steven Aramini is a friend of Happy Meeple. He has just released his latest game, Tricky Tides, on Kickstarter. If you like the idea of this game, you may want to back it.

I have not had the chance to play it, but judging from the short video and art that I could see, it seems to be a pretty cool game.

Check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/goldsealgames/tricky-tides/

Several players reported that the animations were now crazy fast.

For example in Lost Cities and Hanamikoji.

I would like to understand if this was just terribly slow before and normal now or if it was normal before and terribly fast now.

Please give me your impressions on all games quoting your machine and browser!

If anyone has a video of a crazy speed, please send it to our usual address : contact at happym......com

Thanks for your help!

PS: we optimized some code in the latest update (monday), so it is possible that you feel an improvement in speed, but our intention was never to make it crazy fast. If this is the case, it is a bug.

Happy Meeple community / Beta-testing - help needed
« on: 24/03/18, 06:02pm »
Hello all,

We need your help if you can give us some of your time this weekend.

We have a new version of the platform ready. Hopefully, we can launch
it on Monday morning.

We changed many things in the code and bugs are very likely.

The main feature of the update is the possibility to refresh the page
in the middle of a game (in case the connection has issues or the game
froze for any other reason). And that's what we would like to test in
the first place. The game should now reload smoothly and you'll be
able to carry on playing.

We changed quite a few things in the code of most games to deal with
this new feature. And we have also taken the opportunity to update
layout, animation, and even sound effects etc

If you have a few minutes to spare, please get in touch with us (use the contact form) and we will send you the address of our test website (if you know it already, you can go ahead to try to play games online and reload the page mid-way).

Many thanks!

Nicolas.

Is there a need for color-blind symbols on all games?

For example, do you feel the need on Lost Cities cards?

Tips, polls, updates / Your input on replaying games
« on: 09/03/18, 04:40pm »
Hi all,

We are currently developing a new feature. It will soon be possible to refresh the page while playing. The game will RELOAD completely in a few seconds. This will be a useful option if your game is stuck. It will allow you to carry on playing rather than abandon the game. It is a feature that has long been awaited and we think that you will find it useful.

As a natural consequence of this, we will now be in a position to archive/save games and give you the possibility to REPLAY your games at a later stage.

And so we would like to ask you what you think about it.

Question 1)
Do you sometimes want to REPLAY a game to analyze it? Do you find this feature useful? Will you use it?

Question 2)
Of course, players under Magic Potion will have unlimited free replays. But what about the other players?
We have a few options:
a) replaying a game is completely free and is unlimited too
b) first replay (each day) is free but subsequent replays cost some coins
c) replaying a game costs a few coins
c) replaying a game costs a lot of coins
d) replaying a game until the 30th move is free, but costs some coins afterward (...)
etc.
What are your thoughts? Do you feel that any of these options is fair/unfair? Any alternative?

Note that the feature of reloading a game while playing will always be available, no matter what.

Finito / Amazing game of Finito
« on: 28/02/18, 09:48am »
This is a weird game of Finito which took quite long (28 moves).

As you can see, 10 of my tokens are in the first 2 rows.

If that's not weird enough, what about this? 7, 8, 9 and 10 were originally placed in the bottom 2 rows and 6 just above. At that moment, I had hopes to finish the game in something like 16-18 moves...

But the dice kept giving low numbers so everything went up. The last token to move was number 11 which had plenty of good space to go at that moment.

Remember that rule of statistics: if something can happen, it will happen... One day or another... Maybe in a long long time, but it will happen.

PS: it was just a test game while developing the platform. I may not have played the best moves.

Tips, polls, updates / Non-existing bugs?
« on: 11/01/18, 03:21pm »
In the last month, we saw many bug reports in the inn chat. I have had a look at some of the complaints but none of them so far led to a bug. From our point of view everything seems normal.

Here are a few cases:

1) Some players reported that successive wins streaks were not counted properly. In both cases we looked at the players had lost a game (or even 2) in the middle of their series. Obviously it broke the series. That's the whole point of the achievement: trying to win games in succession without a loss and without a draw.

2) Some players thought that some wins against bots were not recorded. We checked this thoroughly and there is no major discrepancy between the results in the match table and the totals recorded in a separate table for that purpose. So in our opinion, again, everything is working fine.
There are 2 reasons why you may think counts are wrong. The first one has to do with the achievements page. The label over medals only displayed the texts "1 win", "3 wins", "6 wins" when what was actually meant was "at least 1 win", "at least 3 wins", "at least 6 wins". We improved this a few days ago. The labels now display ">=1 win", ">=3 wins", ">=6 wins" on the medal and we also display the exact number below the medal. Hopefully this will clarify it all. The second reason why you may think something is wrong is Daily Quest.

Regarding Daily Quests, bear in mind that every time we ask for a number of games or number of opponents, we mean different games and different opponents. If you beat the same bot twice, it will only count as once for that purpose. We believe many false impressions are due to this.

I hope this clarifies the issue. It is still possible that there are bugs somewhere and we don't want to discourage you. Please keep reporting bugs! (it is better to report them in the forum or via the contact form so that we don't miss them.)

Have fun!

Hi all,

Hanamikoji has been released a few days ago. We hope you like it.

This is the place to give feedback. Tell us your thoughts about the game, the implementation, the interface, the sound and music, the animations, the bots...

Tips, polls, updates / Hanamikoji released
« on: 14/12/17, 01:13pm »
We are very happy to release today a minimalist Japanese game called HANAMIKOJI.

The game has received excellent reviews all over the world, so you should not miss it.

Very simple rules, but a lot of depth.

A perfect game for our platform.

Enjoy!

PS: As we have changed quite a few things in our code to be able to develop Hanamikoji, this has affected other games. We hope that there won't be any bug as a result, but cannot try every possible case. So keep an eye while playing and if there is anything unusual, please let us know! Lost Cities, Migrato, Glastonbury are the games most likely to be affected if any.

Happy Meeple community / German translations
« on: 06/12/17, 01:55pm »
Hello,

Our usual translator for German language is not available immediately. Is there someone around who could help us with the translations of our next game: Hanamikoji? The game is almost ready and is basically only waiting for translations.

The translation is mostly needed for the tutorial (the game is quite simple so the tutorial is shorter than usual). It is not a big job.

Plenty of Magic Potion (1 year) as a reward.

Please get in touch with the usual contact form. And we will let you know the procedure!

Thanks for your attention!
